Lean Government - what Can Toyota Teach Uncle Sam?

If you have ever heard of the Toyota Production System (TPS), you know what a powerful method the Japanese have developed and refined over the past 50+ years.  Incredible breakthroughs have been made in “leaning out” processes and organization, to result in end products that are achieved better, faster, cheaper, and that are more compatible with customer desires.

IMAGINE, for a moment, this “leaning out” being applied to the US Federal Government, one of the most “fat” organizations with some of the most “obese” processes in existence.  Part of why most folks find themselves conservative as they age is the dislike of needless wasty by government as they become increasingly practical in their daily family-oriented lives!

PROPOSAL: A winning strategy for John McCain in November would be to make “Lean Government” a central pillar of his campaign, and to appoint a “Lean Czar” (folks are so fond of that term now!) to accomplish some very aggressive goals for making the federal government operate better, cheaper, faster, with less resources, and in ways that make citizens proud of their government again.

The country is 60% conservative in nature, and all of those folks and some of the remaining 40% would LOVE some of these principles being applied to government.  Better yet… they would work!  Imagine that!
